這是一瓶我本來沒有打算寫下任何的欴後筆記,更不要說把它寫在我的博客裏。

這一瓶酒,不經不覺,已經存放在我的酒櫃約三年的時間了。最初購買,只因覺得它價錢平,連從英國運到香港,平均每一瓶都只需要港幣一百八十元,我和幾位朋友買了一箱,我便分了三支。

飲第一支的時候,應該是 2008 年,感覺這瓶 2006 Nicolas Potel Volnay,酸度太高,果香欠奉,令人失望。好歹生產商都是 Nicolas Potel,應該不會差到這地步吧。難道這瓶酒剛進入了 Pinot Noir 的休眠期?

2009 再試飲第二支。感覺好像好了一些,但依然可以把它評為令人失望的一瓶。

到了現在的 2011 年 3 月了。經過了兩次的失望,實在對它沒有半點的期望。可是極度意外地,這瓶酒似乎終於睡醒了,之前欠奉的紅果和花香終於出現,紫羅蘭香味尤為強烈,之前過強的酸味也得到了果味的平衡。雖然如此,但這瓶酒仍稱不上高品質,單寧雖幼,但卻有點不成熟。不過,以只 HK$180 來說,這瓶酒這一次終於可以做到物超所值了。

葡萄酒就是這麼神奇,出自同一箱的酒,不同時候,不同階段,表現可以這麼不同!

    would it be possible that the difference came from aging?

    Man, I have one more quick question. If I want to build my palate library for Burgundy wine, which regions should I start first (presumably not too expensive)? Any recommendations? Many thanks in advance.

      Hi William, yes, I think this is partly because of ageing and also partly because the wine may be at a sleeping stage. Pinot Noir from Burgundy is known that they may shut down in the first few years so one will never know when it is a good time to drink.

      If you want to build your palate library, I suggest you to try with some more structured village wines such as Gevrey-Chambertin or some producers who produce more international style such as Nicolas Potel. BTW, I have recently tried a bottle of 2001 Chambolle-Musigny, Les Cras, Domaine Michele & Patrick Rion which I find it very good. Not sure if I will post it on my blog but this is quite a good bottle for its price. You can find it in Aqua Wine. I have also tried a bottle of Albert Bichot Gevrey-Chambertin VV 2007 which I bought from Ponti. It is also quite good.

    Sorry to bug you again. I have a Clos Du Marquis 2007 and a Vray Croix de Gay 2004. Are these wine drinkable yet? I heard that if it is an expensive wine, i will follow the vintage chart from roberparker (http://www.erobertparker.com/newSearch/vintagechart1.aspx). Just wonder if these two wines are drinkable now.

      I have never tried these two wines before. But my guess is they should be ready to drink now even though I think they can probably improve with years. 2007 Bordeaux is known for its readiness for early consumption so I think Clos Du Marquis should be ready to drink now even though it may be better with more years. 2004 is not a particularly strong year and given Vray Croix de Gay is a right bank Bordeaux, it may be ready to be consumed sooner. So, it may be ready now. Having said so, I guess it can be kept for years if you want. Hope this help.
