Musigny is not only the best Grand Cru vineyard in Chambolle Musigny, it is also one the best few in the whole of burgundy.  Jasper Morris MW even think that other than monopole Grand Cru vineyards in Vosne-Romanee such as Romanee-Conti and La Tache, Musigny is probably the best vineyard in the whole of Burgundy.  Among all the different producers of Musigny, Comte de Vogue is the largest owner.

Unfortunately, Musigny is almost always very expensive.  That’s why this is still my first bottle of Musigny.  In addition, 1992 was not a great year.  I actually don’t have high expectation on this wine.  I drank the wine without any decanting.  The wine showed very aged aromas such as mushroom, leather and earth.  Fruits, unfortunately, was rather weak already.  After about two hours, the intensity of the wine continued to decline and becoming very weak.  Although this Musigny is just twenty years old, it has past its peak already.

If I analyse the wine technically, this wine could hardly earn a high score.  Maybe just 85 out of 100.  It had just average concentration.  Complexity was not really high.  Aromas and flavours were mainly those tertiary ones lacking primary fruits.  Tannins were a bit drying in the aftertaste.  Luckily, the wine had a good length.  However, what was strange about this wine is that it continued to remind me its greatness and potential.  It just seems like I’m walking into an ancient magnificent temple which is abandoned already.  Yet, one can still feel and imagine its grandness.   This feeling is rather strange and I have never encountered such a feeling before.  I still have 2001 and 2005 Comte de Vogue Musigny in my cellar.  I hope they would be great and much better than this one.
