About a year ago, I have tried a bottle of 1994 Leoville-Barton. While it is certainly not bad, it didn’t live up with my expectation for a Bordeaux super-second. Trying another two super-seconds this time. Unfortunately, I’m a bit disappointed again.
1994 Ch. Leoville Las cases
My first impression on this wine was it was still very young. It got abundant and rich fruit flavours. A very interesting, complex and balance nose of spices, dried herbs, Buy tadalis sx soft online red fruits and blackcurrant. In palate, however, my disappointment started. It is slightly lacking in its concentration and not matching the rich and complexed nose. The length is not that long as well. Was this because of the dilution by Sep rain? Even though this wine continued to improve with more time after opened, it never match my expectation as a good quality Bordeaux super-second.
1994 Ch. Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
I was quite surprised by its strong tannins given it has already almost 20 years of ageing. I was not quite prepared for its slightly rough texture, especially in its aftertaste. This wine has good concentration of flavours such as plum, blackcurrant, pencil lead and spices. A very classic Pauillac! However, just as the Leoville Las Cases, I’m slightly disappointed with this wine. Maybe I’m expecting too much given the high regarded of these super-second producers.
