This is another Bordeaux red purchased from Park’n Supermarket.  The last one I tried 2007 Ch. Croix-Mouton, while not bad, doesn’t represent particularly good value for money.  This time, the bottle is coming from a lesser Bordeaux region known as Fronsac.  Fronsac wines, in general, are cheaper, softer and fruitier.  Located north of Pomerol and St. Emillion, wines are dominated by Merlot supplemented by Cabernet Franc.  Ageing for five or six years will generally improve its quality.

Ch. Canon-de-Brem is no longer released after 2006.  Its grapes are blended with Ch. de La Dauphine and labelled as such.

As with most Fronsac, this wine is smooth, soft and very fruity.  Tannins are fully integrated given its ageing.  Oak flavour, while quite obvious is balanced by its rich fruit flavours.  This is a very forward wine that should be welcomed by people who prefer an easy drinking and forward style Bordeaux.  Not bad at the price of HK$139.
