After drinking 2004 Palmer & Co Blanc de Blancs and found it is offering very good value for money, I continue to try its 2004 Palmer & Co Millsime.  Without taking any tasting note, I just remember that it is fuller than the Blanc de Blancs (which is kind of expected) and is of very good value for money as well.  Yet, I think the Blanc de Blancs is slightly better than the Millsime.

With these positive experience, I finally is willing to give its old vintage champagne a try.  There are currently two old vintage Palmer & Co Champagne available in Watsons Wine Cellar now.  One is 1985 which is the one I bought since it is on special price.  The other I can’t remember exactly.  Just remember it is 197x.

Although this 1985 Palmer & Co Blanc de Blancs is an aged champagne, it only offers very slight hint of honey and dried fruits aromas and flavour which I particularly liked and may be found in aged Champagne.  This is a slight disappointment to me.  Yet, this champagne did offer good complexity with very strong aromas of flint stone and minerality together with aromas of baked apple, pear, lemon and floral.

While not outstanding, this is a certainly a very decent aged champagne.  Does it worth its price of almost HK$800?  This is a difficult question.   Considering it is already 26 years old, then yes.  If the cellaring cost per year per bottle is HK$10, this is already HK$260.  And I believe it would be difficult for you to find an aged champagne at this price.  However, does it worth more than double than the 2004 Palmer & Co Blanc de Blancs?  Probably not.  I rather buy two bottles of 2004 since they actually give very similar satisfaction to me.  If you haven’t tried aged champagne before and would like a try, then this can be a good choice.
