Ch. Marbuzet 2004 & Ch. Phelan-Segur 2006

I have recently bought two bottles of St. Estephe.

The first bottle is Ch. Marbuzet 2004.  Until 1995, Ch. Marbuzet has always been the second wine of Cos d’Estournel.  But since the release of Les Pagodes, Ch. Marbuzet became an independent brand.  Since I like both Cos d’Estournel and Les Pagodes, I’m having some high hope on Ch. Marbuzet.  Unfortunately, I’m rather disappointed with this wine.  It is a relatively easy drinking wine.  It has quite strong flavours of spices and black fruit.  Yet, it lacks complexity, character and length.  I feel a bit bored when drinking this wine.

The second bottle is Ch. Phelan-Segur 2006.  Ch. Phelan-Segur has always been one of the most consistent producer in St. Estephe.  The winemaking philosophy of its owner Thierry Gardinier has always been making wine with good value Buy Cytotec Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed for money.

I want to keep making claret, and I certainly don’t want a style imposed on my wines by the press or anyone else.  I can easily make wines that will appeal to Buy femara online Parkerites by lowering yields, but then I will have a small quantity of wine that only collectors can afford.  Volume is important for Bordeaux.  And reducing my volumes and increasing my prices would mean that I would risk losing customers.  I want to make wines that will be drunk to the dregs at dinner.

Comparing to Ch. Marbuzet 2004, this Ch. Phelan-Segur 2006 is definitely much better.  It has riper and richer fruit flavours, smoother in palate, better complexity and longer length.  For about HK$300, I think this wine is acceptable.
