The fourth bottle of Chardonnay I’m drinking is 2006 HdV Chardonnay Hyde Chardonnay produced from the United States Carneros.
I’m not sure if you have heard of this producer. But if you are a Burgundy lover, I’m sure you must have heard of DRC. HdV is a joint venture by the Hyde Family in Napa Valley and de Villiane Family of DRC in Burgundy. This joint venture is the result of the marriage between the two families.
Probably also because of this reason, both viticulture and vitification of HdV is heavily influenced by French philosophy. Wines from HdV is also very Burgundian in style.
In term of colour, it is also very different from the Planeta Chardonnay I drank before. While Planeta Chardonnay is Buy vpxl online quite golden in colour; HdV is much lighter in colour and having a pale light yellow. Its most obvious flavour I noticed immediately is its strong minerality as well as vanilla and creaminess. In contrast, fruity flavours such as citrus and apple is much weaker.
The wine is very full body in palate. Its acidity is definitely much higher than Planeta Chardonnay. Yet it is still not as acidic as wines coming from Chablis and Cote d’Or. Th wine has good concentration of flavour and a very smooth palate.
If I have to drink this wine in blind, I will probably guess this is a Burgundian white wine.
