I have never though year 2000 is an exceptional vintage for Champagne.  Yet, almost every Champagne houses released their vintage champagne primarily because year 2000 is millennium year.  Temperature in 2000 in the Champagne region was quite high resulting wines with lower acidity.  Yet, this is not all bad.  Champagne of year 2000 usually is more suitable for early drinking.  While we are waiting for 1996 and 1998 to mature, why not enjoy a bottle of year 2000?!

Although I guess 2000 Krug will not be as good as 1996 Krug or 1998 Krug, as a fan of Krug, I still have to try a bottle to see how it goes.  Opened for two hours, 2000 Krug has an explosive and complex aromas of yeasty, sherry, fermented soy, floral incence, lemon, orange, lemon peel, ripe pear, baked apple, honey and anise!  Really complex and in line with Krug’s style.  Full-bodied, complex yet elegant.  Acidity is not low but certainly not as high as 1996 and 1998.

This 2000 Krug is just like other champagne of year 2000, suitable for early drinking.  This Champagne is already very open and suitable for drinking today.  If you would like a very good champagne to drink today, this can be an excellent choice.  Although I don’t think the quality of 2000 Krug is as good as 1996 or 1998 Krug, I think most people will prefer 2000 Krug today.  1996 or 1998 should be saved for future enjoyment.  To enjoy the best champagne always require not only money, but also patience!
