Tignanello 2007

Tignanello, one of the most famous Italian names, was the first wine to be called Super-Tuscan.  In 1971, since Antinori has used 20% of international grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the wine was forced to be called Vino da Tavola which means table wine in Italy.  However, given this was not an ordinary table wine and commanding a high price, American wine business invented the name of “Super-Tuscan” to make these wines stood out from the rest of VDT.

If you would like to know more about Super-Tuscan, you may want to take a look at the below video.

Tignanello is produced from a vineyard of 47 hectares and is at least 350 metres above sea level.  Even though its composition may change year after year, it normally has about 80% to 85% of Sangiovese and 15% to 20% of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

Want to hear what Antinori himself talked about Tignanello, watch the following video.

Drinking this 2007 Tignanello now is definitely a bit too early.  Yet, I’m really interested to know how this wine performs and if I shall buy more bottles for cellaring.  The wine is decanted for an hour.  It has a strong nose of violet, plum, blackcurrant, licorice, spices, white pepper and oaky flavours.  Certainly an interesting and complex Buy Diflucan Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed nose that I enjoyed very much.  In palate, it has a velvety structure and has a lot of very fine tannins.  The wine has very ripe fruit flavour yet balanced by sufficient acidity making the wine a very refreshing drink.  I especially like its flavour of sour cherry which is really nice.  After an hour, the wine turns out to be even more fuller and richer with a very long length.

For the price of about HK$600, I really should buy a few more bottles!
